These tutorials were written and created by yours truly in Photoshop CS, though they should work fine on most earlier versions. All tutorials are marked according to the skill level requirement. Please do NOT copy these tutorials elsewhere.
Skill level: Intermediate. Must have sufficient ability and understanding of the pen tool.
Works in Photoshop CS and up. Click thumbnails to see larger views.
Create a new document with a black background, whatever size you want the wings to be. I like to use a large canvas, as you can always shrink the wings later. Use white as your foreground color.

| Create a new path. Click on the image to the left and save the image. Using the pen tool, trace my path. | |
| Create a new layer, right click on your image (still using the pen tool) and select 'Fill Path.' Leave everything at its default setting and click ok. | |
| Right click on your image again, still using the pen tool. This time, select 'Make Selection.' Feather Radius: 0px, Anti-Alias: Checked. | |
Click 'Select' at the top and select 'Feather.' Feather Radius: 25px.Your selection now should have moved, and now only vaguely follows your white filled area. |
|
| Press 'Delete' on your keyboard or go to Edit → Clear. | |
| Open an image you want to apply your wings to. I am using a wallpaper I made from Shingetsutan Tsukihime. Move your wing over to it. Position and size it accordingly. | |
| Duplicate the layer, and go to Edit → Transform -> Flip Vertical. | |
| Edit -> Transform -> Scale. Change the Width and Height to 60%. Position your wing. | |
| Merge the two layers. Duplicate. Edit → Transform -> Scale. Grab the left middle box and drag it right halfway. Take the top middle box and drag it downward to 93%. This is only to make the perspective look correct, you may use different numbers for your image. | |
| Finished! Doesn't she look lovely? | |
Optional: Repeat the steps making your second path weave opposite your first path. This will give a nice doubled ruffle effect. |
